Welcome

FrancaisEspañol
Welcome to the official website for the Playa Hermosa Artificial Reef Project, located in the bay of Playa Hermosa just north of El Coco in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
CondoFish Playa Hermosa Artificial Reef Project
The project has been affectionately nicknamed  “CondoFish” for the fish habitats, or “condominiums” that we have constructed here.  So far, things are moving along swimmingly.  This is the first project of it’s kind to be approved by the Costa Rican government and as things move along, we hope that it will inspire more projects of it’s kind throughout Costa Rica.  The fish and aquatic plant life are taking well to their homes and multiple species have already begun laying eggs on the structures.  We see more and more life each time we dive down to the reef.  Our History section gives detailed story of how this project started and where it’s headed.
For those interested in supporting the The Playa Hermosa Artificial Reef Project,  Condofish units are now available for adoption 10 meters (30 feet) below the surface.  How to Adopt a Reef?
To learn more about the drive and energy behind this venture please read the message from the founder: Spirit of the Reef.

Anywhere projects like this pop up is good for the ocean! How may we be of assistance? Are you interested in visiting the project? We’d be happy to coordinate a dive.

our group is from the middle east and this type of project, we believe, would be ideal for our dive training area not only as an added attraction but to help sustain and flourish the marine inhabitants local to the area.

thank you for setting – a cost efficient – example of setting up an artificial reef. we shall keep you updated with the progress of the project.

    Guys,
built a similar reef based on you design in Lagoa Uembje (totally flat bottomed salt-water lagoon in Mozambique) in December. Even before it was half built, it was occupied by a gaint crab, rockcod, seahorses, urchins, & a moray (in 1 day!)
This is so cool! – going to Moz to check it out in March (after 3 months. If this works – many more to follow:-)
